Comprehensive Physical Exam at Your Surprise AZ Veterinarian
At Animal Medical Center of Surprise, every visit with our veterinarians includes a nose-to-tail comprehensive physical exam for your pet. We view this detailed examination as the cornerstone of preventative health care and long-term wellness.
Your pet’s exam experience:
- Initial Assessment: This begins with a weight assessment to track any significant gains or losses. Our veterinary nurse will document a complete medical history, including current diet and medications, and record vital signs like temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Doctor’s Examination: The veterinarian conducts a thorough review, which typically includes:
- Ophthalmic and Otoscopic exam (eyes and ears).
- Oral assessment for any periodontal concerns.
- Auscultation of cardiac/pulmonary sounds (heart and lungs).
- Abdominal palpation to check the kidneys, gastrointestinal system, and urinary bladder.
- Skin and coat inspection for dermatological issues.
- Examination of the anal, vaginal, scrotal, or penile areas.
Proactive Preventative Health Care
As a dedicated preventative health care practice, we strongly encourage biannual physical exams for all pets aged 7 years or greater. This proactive approach allows us to catch any disease processes early, giving your pet a much better prognosis and increased longevity.
